Press Release on Revisions of Balance of Payments Statistics

The “Services/Travel/Credit” and “Primary Income/Compensation of Employees/Debit” items under the “Current Account”, have been revised. As a result, the Current Account has been updated upwards by a total of USD 26.8 billion for the period subject to revision. |
As part of the revision work carried out by the Turkish Statistical Institute in cooperation with the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Council of Higher Education, the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye and the Interbank Card Center to improve tourism statistics, new data sources have been integrated into the system, methodological improvements have been made and tourism statistics have been revised retrospectively to 2012. Following the revision, the "Services/Travel/Credit" item under the "Current Account" has been revised upwards by a total of USD 22.4 billion for the period from January 2012 to August 2022.
Additionally, as a result of the efforts to improve data quality and integrate new data sources into the data compilation process, the “Primary Income/Compensation of Employees/Debit” item under the “Current Account” item has been revised downwards by a total of USD 4.4 billion for the period from January 2017 to August 2022.
