Nurullah Genç was born on September 9, 1960 in the Horasan province of Erzurum. He attended school in Horasan and university in Erzurum. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Atatürk University and in 1984 joined the same university as a researcher. He began his academic career teaching money and banking. Focusing on Management and Organization, he earned his Ph.D in 1990, became an associate professor in 1995, and a professor in 2001. In 2003 he moved to Kocaeli University, where he worked for seven years.
Between 1994 and 2013 he provided advisory services on management issues to public and private sector bodies, re-organizing many business and preparing strategic plans. He also served family businesses in awareness of partnership structures and prepared family constitutions. He has also held seminars and conferences on personal development and worked on strategic planning for Kocaeli University. He served on the Bologna Coordination Commission.
He retired in 2010 and moved to Istanbul Commerce University, where he worked as a department chair and dean. He chaired the board that drew up the University's 2012-2017 Strategic Plan.
Professor Genç has taught graduate and post-graduate courses on many subjects, most prominently Leadership Analysis, the Art of Management, Strategic Management, Business Management, Human Resources and Operational Behavior. He has also delivered declarations and papers to national and international congresses.
A keen chess player, he was Chess Champion of Erzurum and has competed in the Turkish Chess League.
Since 1980 his poems and writings have been published in many literary journals. In 1979 his poem Hicret (Hejira) won first prize in the National Turkish Student Union's Hijri 1400 poetry competition. In 1990 the poem Yağmur (Rain) won the Na'ati Şerif Grand Prize from the Presidency of Religious Affairs. In 1993 his poem İnkılaba Az Kaldı (Not Far from Revolution), better known to the public as Tasalanma Yiğidim (Fear Not My Brave), won first prize in the National Youth Foundation's Youth Anthem competition. In 1998 he won the Grand Rose Poetry Award from the Tuzla Municipality. In 1999 he was chosen as Poet of the Year by the Writers Union of Türkiye. In addition to those listed here, he has many awards in the arts, literature and photography, as well as professional publications, volumes of poetry and novels.
Professor Genç has served as a Member of the Board of the CBRT since May 1, 2015.
