Exhibition "The First Step Towards The Malatya Modern"

The Central Bank of Türkiye is proud to present a selection of artworks from its art collection in the exhibition “The First Step towards the Malatya Modern”. The opening ceremony of the exhibition took place at the Malatya Fehmi Kolçak State Gallery on 2 October 2018. 

The exhibition was curated by Prof. Burcu Pelvanoğlu of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Art History/ Western and Contemporary Art. The exhibition, which hosts 48 works from 43 artists, includes fine examples of Turkish painting, from oil paintings to 3D pieces.

The exhibition has been arranged to offer a visual narration of the development of Turkish painting through sections devoted to certain periods: The Custom of Viewing and Interpreting Nature in Ottoman Painting, The Stylistic Language of Modernism: Late Cubism and Art D’éco of the Republic Era, The Paris School and the Construction of the Abstract in Türkiye, The 1968 Generation Artists, and New Quests, New Trends Post-1980. 

In order to address a wider audience, a panel was organized at the Malatya Congress and Culture Center on 7 October 2018, in which Prof. Pelvanoğlu delivered a keynote speech.  

The bilingual catalogue of the exhibition has been prepared in Turkish and English and the exhibition will run until 31 October 2018.
